My Test Ride of the Yonex Nanoflare 800 badminton racket.

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

About the Yonex Nanoflare 800 badminton racket

Launched in January of 2019, the Yonex Nanoflare series took the badminton world by storm. Brought as a replacement for the popular and highly successful Nanoray series, the Nanoflare 700 topped the charts and proved to be everyone’s favourite. Now, the company is introducing a new racket model called Nanoflare 800. It was released worldwide on August 30, 2019. Made in Japan, it is available in two weight categories: 3U and 4U

The Nanoflare series dedicates itself to players who demand speed and power together. The new racket stays true to the series.

Unique features of the Yonex Nanoflare 800 :

1. Ultra-Thin Razor Frame

Yonex has launched an innovative ultra-thin 360° Razor Frame with the latest racquet model. When you hold the racket, the very first thing that you’ll notice is the thinness of the racket. It is aerodynamic from all angles which means it reduces air resistance by up to 11.5%. This results in faster racket swings and quick contact with the shuttlecock. You can play quicker shots and push your opponent on the back foot easily.

2. Sonic Flare System

In the Nanoflare racket series, the Sonic Flare System includes different graphite material in the top and bottom part of the frame. The Yonex Nanoflare 800 racket has HMG (High Modulus Graphite) at the top. The bottom of the frame has the new graphite material TORAYCA® M40 which ensures better shock absorption and sustains tension efficiently.

How is Nanoflare 800 different from Nanoflare 700?

Unique Features: The newest ultra-thin, Razor Frame is different than any other rackets in the Nanoflare series.

Balance points: The feel of the NF800 is 293 ( Even Balance ) very different from the Nanoflare 700 ( 290 Even Balance ) racket. The 800 feels more head-heavy.

Shaft stiffness: It has a stiffer shaft than other models in the same series.

Responsiveness: The racket is very agile and fast. It makes your shots faster and they do not lack punch. Acceleration from zero to hundred is groundbreaking!

Control: As the racket frame and shaft cut down tremendous air resistance, your reactions need to do some catching up in order to take advantage of its crazy racket head speed.

Here’s what I think of the Yonex NF800 racket

Yonex NF800 badminton racquet is definitely not for Singles gameplay, it’s designed for doubles players who love to surprise and suppress opponents from three-quarter court right up to the net with rapid-fire flat drive aggression. It delivers crazy speed, agility and power at mid-court.

This racket demands the skills of intermediate-to-advanced players for sure, go for the 4UG5 version since speed is the main concentration here but be ready to trade off some power when you’re smashing from the rear court though. Replace your big power smashes with strategic stick smashes instead, it’s such a joy to deliver stick smashes with this racket. Make full use of the 800’s strength, go for speedy placements instead of power. As for string, I would recommend Yonex BG66 at 26 to 27 lbs.

Beginners will not be able to capitalise on the advanced stiff shaft racket. So don’t waste your money unless you’ve mastered how to generate and deliver power fast! If you have got what it takes, it will really reward you handsomely and surprise your opponents. But remember to act really fast to grab it once it surfaces because this is one racket that’s always Out of Stock Worldwide! In Singapore it’s averagely priced at Singapore dollars $250 without string, add $22 on average to include a Yonex string of your choice. Go give it a try and have a taste of how a crazy fast badminton racket feels and sounds like, it's impressive! In any case you don't wish to adopt it, you can easily sell it off on Carousell or other 2nd hand platforms by cutting down $30 off it's original price as it's a very sort after sword. You will be surprised!
